评分##自由主义代表作，结构清晰，论证严谨，功力了得。久闻大名，但一直没读。胡适在他的文章里再三提及本书，还在日记中写他在本科时读这本书。反过来看胡的观点受密尔影响太深了，很多观点基本都是照搬过来。密尔对于个人主义与国家的论述我很喜欢：人的目标是发展自己的各项才能，而国家的价值是其国民价值的总和，因此国家的目标应该是尽可能帮助每个个体自由发展他们的心智。传承了洪堡特的启蒙主义思想，将其从个人层面提升至社会国家层面。还强调了公民民主实践的重要性，以及官僚体制精英化后走向集权的危险，really ahead of his time.

评分我一向喜歡Mill寫東西條理清晰結構嚴謹；這本書我花了一個多月翻來覆去讀了五遍。Liberty感觉要比同為代表作的Utilitarianism更细致也更深刻，充分展現了嚴密的邏輯性和嚴苛的理性；即使在三十多年後的今天對於如今一些叫囂著需要平等自由卻不動腦子只會起哄的人應該有著深遠的教育意義。
