很厚实的书，对于偏微分方程来说内容非常翔实。

从而使本书对于独立自学也是非常适宜的。实数、有理数、整数，等等，在开始时就假设它无作为集合的例子是熟知的代数系统来引入。从而实数正式被假定满足一个域的公理。序和它的性质用其在“实直线”上的位置来描述（大概作为公理，与域的性质有所不同，因而不把序的性质称为公理）。自然数集N的“佩亚诺原理”由赋纳法组成。完全性则未被定义，但在后面被提及，它置于未经证明的“实连续函数的基本定理”之后，即一个闭区间的像是一个闭区间。极限的严格（ε. δ）定义被加以解释，并伴以练习。较早——在微商前——就引入了一致连续性。、总之，对于爱好数学严谨性的学生来说，本书作为初等微积分教程，无论是课堂教材还是自学书籍，都是一个良好的选择。
