---珍妮弗的媽媽每天至少讀10本書給珍妮弗聽。孩子生病必須住院的時候，就會聽錄音帶。所以說，母愛會將一切不可能變成可能。書是很好的一個道具，書可以帶給孩子眾多的感情和知識。正常的傢庭如果能盡早開始，並認真地讀書給孩子聽，又會有多麼令人意想不到的效果呢？這個問題的答案應該很明顯。

艾琳齣生後的4個月內，都是看一些軟厚厚的幼兒書，或是用又厚又硬的紙闆製成的童書，這些書除瞭看之外，還可以當玩具玩。艾琳4個月之後開始喜歡各類的立體書，她總是每天看2至3次這樣的書，而且每次長達45分鍾。到她10個月大時，我開始很渴望讀真正的故事書給她聽，所以我決定講她放在兒童用餐的高腳椅上聽我讀故事書（這樣纔能防止她撕書），這麼做效果很好，而且她的有些反應也讓我感到驚訝。日記中，早餐後9本書；午餐後10本書、4首詩；晚餐後7本書。最後我總共花瞭75分鍾讀瞭25本書。

為瞭確保艾琳對每一本書都熟悉，通常我不會拿到一本新書就馬上讀給她聽。開始幾天，我會先慢慢將書介紹給艾琳，第一天我們隻是看看封麵，再談談這本書的大概內容，第二天纔讀1-2頁，接下來的每一天再多進行幾頁，直到第五天或第六天，我覺得她對書足夠熟悉瞭，纔把整本書讀給她聽。

---很多人會問我，剛齣生的孩子看什麼書閤適。孩子撕書怎麼辦。相信有這樣疑問的父母看瞭這段就會瞭解。書對於小孩子，還是一種玩具，他們用手、嘴巴和眼睛去感受他。然後我也有一個睏擾，Jerry以後上一年級會不會無聊，因為很可能老師講的東西他都會瞭，或者受不瞭枯燥的教學方式。這些問題，估計目前的我是沒有答案的，也可能是我杞人憂天。隻能說，即使這樣，我還會堅持一直給Jerry讀書。

顯然，對於剛齣生到6個月的嬰兒，我們通常隻需要讓孩子習慣父母的聲音和受故事的熏陶，而不是讓他們瞭解你說的話和故事的內容。
