##作者身为一个混血儿，隔年暑假会跟妈妈到韩国探亲，站在她身边的妈妈如同一个注脚，解释了她为何在韩国、长相略约像韩国人。可是当妈妈去世后她独自一人在韩国时，不仅路人对她是谁感到困惑，她或许也对自己是谁产生了困惑。成长过程中她一直抗拒自己身上韩国的部分，可是当妈妈罹患癌症之后，她开始试图通过食物与妈妈以及韩国文化重新建立联系，探寻被自己遗失的美好韩国文化遗产。作者说从来没有人告诉过她人生病后逐渐枯萎的过程是什么样子的，她措手不及。所以她在书中详细记录了妈妈是如何被癌症一点点侵蚀掉的，希望能够帮助他人。同时这也是作者自我治愈、从丧母之痛中恢复的方法。作者拥有的清晰流畅的表达能力，是我渴望的。
