Mild-mannered Oxford scholar John Ronald Reuel Tolkien had little inkling when he published The Hobbit; Or, There and Back Again in 1937 that, once hobbits were unleashed upon the world, there would be no turning back. Hobbits are, of course, small, furry creatures who love nothing better than a leisurely life quite free from adventure. But in that first novel and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the hobbits Bilbo and Frodo and their elfish friends get swept up into a mighty conflict with the dragon Smaug, the dark lord Sauron (who owes much to proud Satan in Paradise Lost), the monstrous Gollum, the Cracks of Doom, and the awful power of the magical Ring. The four books' characters--good and evil--are recognizably human, and the realism is deepened by the magnificent detail of the vast parallel world Tolkien devised, inspired partly by his influential Anglo-Saxon scholarship and his Christian beliefs. (He disapproved of the relative sparseness of detail in the comparable allegorical fantasy his friend C.S. 包装不错，送人的，所以不知道印刷怎么样，看书皮质量，应该是不错的，关注这本书很久了，一直舍不得，终于搞活动了，果断买下

我很喜欢托尔金先生的《魔戒》和《霍比特人》，我有中文版，故再买套英文版与其进行对照阅读，以更好地把握并加深对该作品内容的理解。英文原版书籍印刷清晰，但其纸质较差。这套书的纸张泛黄且较薄，也有难闻的气味。书的内容很精彩，语言也很优美，值得大家反复认真阅读。发货物流都很快，但收到的书籍存在较严重的磨损问题，望注意!
