The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien's world. 是30th版，锁线精装，纸张很厚很白，所以书也比较重，很精致，质量很好，有一张地图。一入中土深似海，托老的作品本来有套平装，但总想弄一套精装的收藏，对这本书和其所属的套装关注犹豫了很久，主要是价格高，要集齐整套经济上会比较吃力，但最终还是决定入手，因为买的不仅仅是书，还是情怀

人类掌管了世界《精灵宝钻》主要记载自开天辟地以来，发生在第一与第二纪元的大事。《魔戒》叙述的是第三纪元的故事。索伦被推翻后，从第四纪元开始，人类掌管了世界，精灵一一消失。今天我们生活的世界属于第六或第七纪元（托尔金说的）。
