前言/序言

　　《工程力學專業英語》是在編者編寫的《工程力學專業英語閱讀教材》（講義）的基礎上改編而成。該講義最初編寫於1997年，於1998年開始在重慶大學工程力學本科專業使用，2002年編者根據教學使用的情況進行瞭一次修改，至今已經使用瞭十餘年時間。本次正式齣版前，編者對原講義進行瞭全麵的修改。
　　本書共分14個單元，每一單元包括一篇課文和兩篇閱讀材料，選材廣泛，針對性強，內容新。所有文章均選自英文原文著作，內容涉及理論力學、材料力學、彈性力學、結構力學、振動力學、塑性力學、實驗力學、計算力學、疲勞與斷裂、復閤材料力學和流體力學等工程力學專業主乾課程和相關課程的基本概念和內容，並注意納入瞭相應課程的新概念和新內容。各單元課文部分適用於教師精講，第一篇閱讀材料適用於本科生自學，第二篇閱讀材料適用於研究生學習參考。為便於學生學習掌握工程力學專業英語詞匯和概念，每篇文章後均列齣瞭專業詞語、詞組和慣用語。
　　為瞭提高學生科技英文應用能力，書中分單元講解瞭英文科技報告和論文的寫作以及科技文章英漢翻譯的基本技巧。這兩部分內容主要參考國內外同類教材編寫而成，講解中盡量給齣與力學專業相關的例句。
　　本書的編寫得到重慶大學資源及環境科學學院萬玲教授的大力支持，重慶大學工程力學係的部分教師和同學對本書內容提齣瞭很多寶貴的意見和建議，使得本教材得以順利完成。重慶大學工程力學係研究生崔偉同學認真仔細地描繪瞭書中所有示圖，在此一並錶示感謝。
　　由於編者的水平有限，不當和錯誤在所難免，懇望讀者批評指正。
