Made into a film starring Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is a masterly portrayal of family tensions and individuals trapped in prisons of their own making.

##No need for Act 3 but after the climax there’s got to be a decent ending (was it really decent?
人物性格塑造得很鮮明，戲劇的題目直接道齣瞭主人公的處境，而作者又沒有賦予瞭其過多的對白，沒有詳細點明她的處境如何，反而是用他人來襯托她，慢慢讀下去，maggie的性格就都呈現齣來瞭。
##cat on a hot tin roof，好比喻也經不起反復用，靈氣受摺磨。 Broadway Version結局不如原版，強求人物發狠，突變太多。Williams的解釋是，"Brick should undergo some apparent mutation"，但想沒想過，醉鬼真的隻希望跪在爛攤子裏流點眼淚，他不要變，要酒。非把玻璃裂痕都熔瞭，捏作新玻璃，說這是人的崛起，之後再不會碎，以為這麼更聰明。殊不知最好的就是那一個碎，全毀瞭最聰明。
##還是更喜歡《欲望》，那部裏麵衝突的核心沒有這裏具象化，可能我更喜歡戲劇裏那種個人或某一特殊群體的絕境吧。Brick有點讓我想起Hemingway那些主人公，the additional charm of that cool air of detachment that people who have gicen up the struggle, 不過他是被動的。包括Maggie the cat，這部是關於一種焦灼，從現實來的脅迫感。

##寫的最傳神的並非美麗動人的貓女maggie也不是性嚮變幻莫測的英俊球星Brick，而是練達人生又對人生無可奈何的Big parents.

##誰能比在燙鐵皮屋頂的貓更焦躁不安，我們都在等我們腦中的click。一場關於癌癥、遺産、愛情、傢庭、同性戀、酗酒和欺騙的生日會，典型的偶閤傢庭，各懷所圖，或單純或貪婪或絕望，人之常情的復雜性，矛盾鮮明卻引而不發。前兩幕可謂intense到極緻，第三幕的兩個版本個人更喜歡第一個，這是個不需要溫情的劇本。 沒買到中譯本，隻好讀原版，劇情過於流暢和緊張使得頻頻的錯字和縮寫也不是什麼閱讀大問題。隻是不明白這個寫在1954年的劇本為何跟網上分類到兒童讀物裏麵瞭。
