分級讀本內容簡單易懂，頁數在24-28頁左右，適閤4-6歲孩子閱讀。而傳統章節書詞匯難度高，有些會帶黑白插圖，頁數至少在96頁以上，適閤7-11歲孩子閱讀。
因此，孩子從分級讀本直接過渡到一般傳統的章節書往往齣現閱讀睏難，故事內容不理解，直接導緻持續閱讀難，甚至討厭閱讀，不想繼續閱讀。
