因著這一變故，整個車隊驟然一停，後頭一多半未受鐵蒺藜襲擊的馬居然能絲毫不受同伴哀鳴的影響，鎮定地收住瞭前一刻還在撒歡飛跑的蹄子。饒是少數馬因受驚直立而起，那些騎士亦穩穩地掛在馬背上，雙腿加緊馬肚，雙手勒緊繮繩，且神情不慌不亂，想是見慣瞭此等突發場麵。

而眼前這隊人，馬蹄都用布裹瞭不說，居然所有護鏢的人都騎著關外名駒——享有“韆裏絕群”美譽的“烏雲馬”。馬隊的中間護著八輛灰布馬車，每輛皆以四匹高頭大馬拉著。馬車粗看毫不起眼，但整輛車最要緊的車軲轆用的卻都是最結實的鐵樺木，且做工精湛。鐵樺木比平常木頭硬三倍，比普通鋼都硬一倍，做齣來的車軲轆自然也異常結實。隻是此種木頭隻有南朝跟赤焰的邊境纔有，且數量十分稀少。
