Gilbert Strang was an undergraduate at MIT and a Rhodes Scholar at Balliol College, Oxford. His Ph.D. was from UCLA and since then he has taught at MIT. He has been a Sloan Fellow and a Fairchild Scholar and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is a Professor of Mathematics at MIT, an Honorary Fellow of Balliol College, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Professor Strang has published eleven books:

He was the President of SIAM during 1999 and 2000, and Chair of the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics. He received the von Neumann Medal of the US Association for Computational Mechanics, and the Henrici Prize for applied analysis. The first Su Buchin Prize from the International Congress of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the Haimo Prize from the Mathematical Association of America, were awarded for his contributions to teaching around the world. ##如果自學的話 很多證明是沒有的 所以 如果學習綫性代數 還是主要聽教授講 如果上課是用這本教材的話 它主要是輔助的 所以啊 還是好好聽教授的 彆指望看瞭這本書就飛升瞭 看 MIT 的視頻也不是說按教材講的 關鍵還是看人講 所以啊 單是引進這本教材是不行的 另外隻做這上麵的習題...
評分##主要是看瞭作者課程視頻，書看瞭一些章節補充課裏忽略的證明。感覺書有點太長瞭，沒有課程流暢。Edelman 更新後的課程強調SVD: https://github.com/mitmath/1806/blob/master/summaries.md

評分##其實更喜歡 Strang教授的 Lectures，Textbook太想做到循循善誘瞭，反而降低瞭閱讀流暢度。
評分##如果看那個公開課，讀此書就算英語不是非常好也能流暢閱覽，可以說是將各綫代定理直觀地展示在人麵前，看到綫代真正的精妙與威力，抓住瞭核心，內容也全，正交的那一章尤其精彩，最小二乘法相當直觀，特徵值的那章，簡單不失深度，作為初步入門是再好不過瞭，適閤大一新生學綫...
