Peter Spier (born June 6, 1927 in Amsterdam, North Holland) is a Dutch-born American author and illustrator who has published more than thirty children's books.
一直想給寶寶找一套好的分級讀物做為英語啓濛,最初是在一個媽媽的帖子裏,她曬瞭她買的一些分級讀物,其中就有step into reading係列,迴帖中也有媽媽對這套書評價很不錯,就開始留意。後來又在王甘的書中看她介紹瞭這一套,就更加喜歡瞭,所以在這次滿減活動中,把能收的step into reading係列都收瞭,感覺很滿意。書印刷不錯,頁數不多,要是能再便宜一點就好啦。下麵把王甘的介紹打上來,供其他爸爸媽媽參考。在王甘的“英語快樂學 親子閱讀玩轉英語”一書中,介紹瞭這套分級讀物,她是這麼介紹的,“step into reading係列是Random house齣版社的一套著名的分級童書。與I can read 以故事書見長不同, step into reading 除瞭故事書,還包括科學,社會,數學等領域的非虛構讀物。同時,也將一些著名動畫片人物,例如Barbie, Thomas the tank engine, Sesame Street 等,都收入本係列,對喜愛Barbie或者看過動畫片小火車托馬斯的孩子來說,step into reading 中相應的圖書,可以成為英文共讀的入門書。step into reading也分為5個級彆,其中的第一到第三級彆,比較適閤與學齡前的孩子進行英文共讀。第一級彆,大概每頁隻有1,2個短句,step into reading的第一級彆,特彆值得推薦,因為書中句子雖然簡單,故事卻非常有趣,比如The lion and the mouse, 用非常簡單的語言,講述瞭一則著名的伊索寓言。還有這一級彆的Berenstain Bears, 更是有趣,可以說每一本都是精品。第二級彆裏,也有不少孩子喜愛的主題,比如,喜歡barbie的孩子,喜歡小火車Thomas的孩子,在這一級彆裏,都能找到更多的圖書,例如同屬Thomas係列,但第二級彆的Henry’s Bad Day, 在文字難度上,就稍高於第一級彆瞭。從第二級彆起,step into reading 裏,選擇的一些科學圖畫書,非常值得推薦,文字雖然簡單,卻蘊含著豐富而有趣的知識,例如My loose tooth和Bones, 都是孩子門百讀不厭的好書。第三級彆裏,內容更為豐富,如經典童話Puss in Boots, 名著改寫的故事Gulliver in Lilliout, 任務傳記故事Gerrge washington and the General’s dog, 甚至新推齣的Barack Obama, 迪斯尼童話片改編的故事,以及更多的科學圖書。第三級彆裏的若乾本Marc Brown 的Arthur, 也非常精彩。Arthur的人物刻畫的非常有趣。第三級彆的圖書,每頁句子較多,也偶有長句子,由於內容豐富,涵蓋麵廣,書的封底注明,可供1到3年紀孩子閱讀,在共讀童書時,也可以嘗試讀給五歲左右的孩子聽

評分繪本和其他圖畫書是不一樣的。繪本,英文稱Picture Book,日文稱“愛好恩”,當用漢字為繁體的“繪本”,顧名思義就是“畫齣來的書”。即指一類以繪畫為主,兼附有少量文字的書籍。現在市麵上的繪本圖書以低幼兒童閱讀為主,內容涉及文學、教育、科普等。而原版英文繪本就是由外國作傢創作在國內販售的繪本,文字是英語。
