第一部分:统计学基础 数据与统计学概述: 本部分首先 introduces the fundamental role of statistics in modern society, particularly within the economic and management fields. It distinguishes between descriptive statistics (summarizing data) and inferential statistics (drawing conclusions about populations from samples). Students will grasp the importance of data collection, organization, and presentation as the initial steps in any statistical analysis. 数据的类型与计量尺度: Detailed explanations of various data types (qualitative vs. quantitative, discrete vs. continuous) and measurement scales (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio) are provided. This foundational understanding is crucial for selecting appropriate statistical methods. The book emphasizes the power of visual representation in understanding data. It covers a range of graphical techniques, including histograms, bar charts, pie charts, scatter plots, and box plots, explaining their strengths and weaknesses for different data types and analytical purposes. This section delves into measures that describe the central tendency of a dataset, such as the mean, median, and mode. The text clarifies the conditions under which each measure is most appropriate and the insights they provide about a dataset’s typical value. Beyond central tendency, understanding data variability is essential. The book comprehensively explains measures of dispersion, including range, variance, and standard deviation. These measures are critical for assessing the spread and consistency of data. Students will learn to describe the shape of a data distribution using concepts like skewness and kurtosis. Understanding these characteristics helps in identifying patterns and potential outliers. Building on the initial introduction, this part may include more advanced charting techniques relevant to economic and management data, such as time series plots, cumulative frequency curves, and Lorenz curves, depending on the specific focus of the edition. This crucial section lays the groundwork for inferential statistics. It introduces probability axioms, events, conditional probability, and independence. Students will develop an understanding of randomness and uncertainty. The concept of random variables (discrete and continuous) is explained, along with common probability distributions like the binomial, Poisson, and normal distributions. The normal distribution, in particular, is highlighted for its pervasive importance in statistical inference. This part bridges the gap between probability and inference by explaining the concept of sampling distributions, particularly the sampling distribution of the mean. The Central Limit Theorem is explained in detail, underscoring its fundamental role in statistical inference. Students will learn how to estimate population parameters (like the mean and proportion) using sample data. Both point estimation and interval estimation (confidence intervals) are thoroughly covered, emphasizing the concept of margin of error and confidence level. This is a cornerstone of statistical inference. The book provides a systematic approach to hypothesis testing, covering the formulation of null and alternative hypotheses, choice of test statistics, decision rules, and interpretation of results. Common hypothesis tests, such as z-tests, t-tests, and chi-square tests, are explained with practical examples. This section explores the relationship between two variables. Students will learn to calculate and interpret correlation coefficients, understanding the strength and direction of linear associations. The book offers a comprehensive introduction to linear regression, including simple linear regression and multiple linear regression. Topics covered include model building, estimation of regression coefficients, hypothesis testing for regression coefficients, and interpretation of the R-squared value. The application of regression in forecasting and understanding causal relationships (with appropriate caveats) is emphasized. (ANOVA): This part introduces the technique for comparing means of three or more groups. Students will learn the principles of ANOVA and how to interpret its results in various economic and management contexts. For data collected over time, this section covers fundamental concepts and methods for analyzing trends, seasonality, and cyclical patterns. Techniques for forecasting future values based on historical data may be included. This section may introduce statistical methods that do not rely on assumptions about the distribution of the population, offering alternatives when parametric assumptions are violated. A significant feature of modern statistical education is the integration of statistical software. This book is expected to guide students in using popular statistical software packages (such as SPSS, R, or Excel’s data analysis tools) to perform the statistical analyses discussed. Practical exercises and real-world case studies will be integrated throughout the text to reinforce learning.
